On 10 October 2016, the Organizing Committee for the Republic of China (ROC) 105th Double Tenth National Day celebrated the ROC 105th Double Tenth National Day by hosting a dinner reception at the Mandarin Orchard Singapore. Deputy Representative and Mrs. James C. L. Huang graced the event which was attended by over 700 friends and well-wishers. Present at the event were advisers and commissioners from the Overseas Community Affairs Committee, office bearers from the Taipei Business Association in Singapore, and friends from the political, business, academic and diplomatic community in Singapore.
In his address, Deputy Representative James C. L. Huang commended the Organizing Committee for its devotion and dedication to the country, as demonstrated by its zealous preparations for a line-up of woodball, tennis and golf tournaments as well as the dinner reception to commemorate the nation’s 105th birthday. He also referred to President Tsai Ing-wen’s national day speech, which covered wide-ranging issues on Taiwan’s national development, foreign relations and trade, and reiterated her call of “Forging Ahead: Achieving Reforms to Make the Country Great”.
Deputy Representative Huang also emphasized the importance of overseas compatriots to Taiwan. In President Tsai’s address at an overseas compatriot celebration on the eve of national day, she had called on compatriots to forge closer linkages between Taiwan and the rest of the world by facilitating collaboration with new industries and intensifying cultural exchanges. She had also tasked overseas compatriots to nurture the younger generations as leaders of the Taiwanese community and to be ambassadors of Taiwan so that the world can get a glimpse of Taiwan’s rich culture.
As the evening progressed, Deputy Representative and Mrs. Huang were invited to join the advisers and commissioners from the Overseas Community Affairs Committee and office bearers of various compatriot associations for the cake-cutting onstage. Adopting the Singapore-style of shouting “Yam Seng” three times, everyone raised their glasses to the prosperity and happiness of Taiwan. Deputy Representative Huang also presented certificates of appreciation to the 11 members on the Organizing Committee. The evening continued amidst much laughter and pomp with lively performances by the School of the Arts and a quintet band.
