“Count Me In” Charity Concert Raises Close to $300,000 for People with Disabilities
The Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) performed a fusion of traditional Chinese music pieces with popular Broadway and Western classical crossover numbers under the baton of world-renowned music director Maestro Tsung Yeh for SPD’s ‘Count Me In’ Charity Concert last Friday at the Capitol Theatre. Also performing at the fundraising event was young vocalist Lauren Yeo, who held her own sold out solo concert at the Esplanade at the age of 9 and has performed in Carnegie Hall, as well as SPD’s Youth Aspiration Award recipient Samuel Lim who performed solo on the guzheng.
The charity concert, with DBS as the main sponsor, was organised by SPD (an organisation serving people with disabilities) and was graced by Guest-of-Honour Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth. It raised over $290,000 for SPD’s programmes and services which supports more than 5,000 people with physical, sensory and learning disabilities.
